Affinity Qualification Requirements

Professional Education and Occupational Discount Qualification Requirements
This discount is applied when the head of household or spouse has a qualifying professional occupation.
Qualified occupations and the documentation requirements are shown below.  For groups with degree requirements,
foreign degrees and transcripts are acceptable for membership verification, but they must be accompanied by a
certified translation of the document.

 
 
Accountants:
Persons currently licensed as Certified Public Accountants or Certified Management Accountants.

Dentists:
Persons currently licensed to practice General Dentistry or a Dental Specialty in California, or are current
members of the California Dental Association.


Educators:
Persons currently credentialed as K-12 teachers. Credential must indicate a “Clear”, “Clear Professional”, “Life”,
or “Preliminary” designation. Superintendents and Principals are eligible for membership. Private school
teachers must provide a letter from the private school where they are employed stating they have worked at the
school as a full-time teacher for at least 3 years, and have a Bachelor degree. Full-time College or University
Professors or instructors also qualify with submission of a letter of current, full-time employment from the college
or university. Full time includes contract Professors or instructors who are under temporary contract but work
full-time at a Four-Year College or University.


Engineers:
Persons with a Bachelor degree, Masters degree, or Ph.D. in engineering. Persons with a license to practice as
an engineer also qualify.


Physicians/Surgeons:
Persons currently licensed to practice as a physician, surgeon, pharmacist, or psychologist in California or are
current members of the California Medical Association.


Scientists:
Persons with a Bachelor degree, Masters degree, or Ph.D. in one of the following fields: Actuarial Science,
Astronomy, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Applications, Computer Graphics, Computer
Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Programming, Computer Technology, Cybernetics,
Ecology, Genetics, Geology, Geophysics, Mathematics, Meteorology, Neuroscience, Physics, Physiology,
Oceanography, Planetary Systems, or Statistics.


Architects:
Persons with a Bachelor Degree, Masters Degree, or Ph.D. in Architecture. Persons with a state license to
practice architecture qualify as well.


Firefighters:
Full-time, currently active Firefighters commissioned by a city, county, state, or Federal fire-fighting agency
recognized in California.


Lawyers/Judges:
Current members in good standing of the California Bar Association or in the California Judges Association.

Registered Nurses:
Persons licensed to practice as a registered nurse with the California Nurses Board or members of the
California Registered Nurses Association.


Police Officers/Law Enforcement Officers:
Persons who are active, full-time, sworn law enforcement officers commissioned by a city, county, state, or
Federal law enforcement agency recognized in California.


Aviation Professionals:
Persons who are airline pilots with a current FAA airline transport license or are air traffic controllers with a
current air traffic controller certificate.


Veterinarians:
Persons currently licensed to practice Veterinarian Medicine in California.

Physical and Occupational Therapists:
Persons currently licensed to practice physical or occupational therapy in California.

Speech Audiologists and Pathologists:
Persons currently licensed to practice speech-language pathology or audiology in California.

Librarians:
Persons with a Masters degree in library science.

Real Estate Agents and Brokers:
Persons currently licensed as real estate salespersons or brokers in California.
Note: If the auto policies are insured in Farmers or Mid-Century Auto, at least one vehicle in the household must
be rated for ‘Business – Occupational’ Type of Use.


Retirees:
Retirees previously employed in a listed occupation (other than Small Business or Workers Compensation
Policyholders) are eligible with supporting documentation: a retirement letter from the former employee, or a pay
stub from a pension plan. A letter confirming retirement must be written by the former employer’s human
resources representative. It must be clearly legible, provided on a company letterhead, showing the name,
mailing address and phone number of the writer. The pay stub from a pension plan must be less than 90 days
old, and have the former employee’s legible name and address.  Previously self-employed lawyers / judges may
present evidence of last active membership in good standing of the California Bar Association or in the California
Judges Association.  Previously self-employed accountants may present evidence of last active licensing as a
CPA or CMA.
